This website is a static website. It does not use cookies, tracking or advertising tools, contact forms, comment functions, external fonts or embedded content from third parties. The pages themselves contain no scripts; the only script is the cookieless Cloudflare Web Analytics beacon, which my hosting provider Cloudflare adds to the pages (section 6). Personal data is only processed to the extent technically necessary to deliver the website (see sections 3 and 4), for cookieless visitor statistics (section 6) and when you contact me by email (section 8).

3. HostingHosting by Cloudflare Pages

This website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, a service of Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA ("Cloudflare"). Cloudflare delivers the website through its global network and protects it against attacks. To do so, Cloudflare processes the data described in section 4 on my behalf.

A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is in place: Cloudflare's Data Processing Addendum forms part of its subscription agreement. Personal data may be processed in the USA. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework; in addition, the Data Processing Addendum incorporates the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Each time you visit a page, your browser automatically transmits information that is processed by the hosting provider in server log files:

• IP address of the requesting device
• date and time of the request
• requested page or file and the HTTP status code
• amount of data transferred
• referrer URL (the page you came from), if transmitted
• browser type and version, operating system (user agent)

This data is processed to deliver the website, to ensure its stability and security, and to defend against attacks. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; my legitimate interest is a secure and reliable website. I do not combine this data with other data sources and do not use it to identify visitors. Cloudflare stores log data only for limited periods in line with its retention policies.

6. Webanalyse mit Cloudflare Web AnalyticsWeb analytics with Cloudflare Web Analytics

To see how many visits this website gets, which pages are read, where visitors come from and how quickly the pages load, I use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It is provided by Cloudflare, which also hosts this website (section 3), and is switched on in the hosting settings. No other analytics provider is involved.

Cloudflare adds a small script (beacon) to the pages, loaded from static.cloudflareinsights.com. It sends Cloudflare the address of the page viewed, the referring page, technical information about the browser, operating system and device type, and page load timings. Your IP address is transmitted for technical reasons; according to Cloudflare it is discarded at the nearest Cloudflare data center and is not stored in its databases or logs.

Cloudflare Web Analytics does not set cookies and does not use localStorage or any other storage on your device. It collects no personal data for tracking: it does not create visitor profiles, does not fingerprint visitors via their IP address or browser data and does not track visitors across websites. I only see aggregated statistics, such as page views, visits, top pages, referring sites, countries, browsers and device types, which do not allow me to identify individual visitors.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; my legitimate interest is to understand the reach and technical performance of this website without cookies or profiling. Cloudflare processes the data on my behalf under the data processing agreement described in section 3. You can prevent the measurement with a content blocker or by disabling JavaScript; the website works fully without it. I do not use tracking pixels, advertising or social media plugins. 7. Externe LinksExternal links

This website contains links to external websites, for example to the sources of each update, to employers' job postings, to event organisers, to my LinkedIn profile and the "Share on LinkedIn" links on the update pages. These are plain links: no data is transmitted to these providers when you load a page here. Only when you click a link does your browser connect to the other website, and its operator's privacy policy applies there.

8. Kontakt per E-MailContact by email

If you contact me by email, I process your email address, the time of the message and the information you provide in order to answer your request. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (my legitimate interest in answering enquiries) or Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR if your request relates to a contract. I delete the data when it is no longer needed for this purpose, unless statutory retention obligations apply.
