D2C Shops - The Hub

Owns the customer relationship, first-party data, lifetime value and profitability.

New here? What the hub is about
Gives back

Product data and feeds to agentic. Content and UGC to social. Pricing and bundle tests to marketplace.

How it works in the model

A brand-owned shop holds the relationship and the data to deepen it. The loop: acquire, engage, repeat, grow.

Benefits: first-party insights, higher purchase frequency, lifetime value, profitability.

What the hub gives back

  • Agentic: product data and feeds. This is what AI agents read to find and recommend products.
  • Social: D2C content and UGC. This fuels creator and social content.
  • Marketplaces: pricing and bundle tests. They shape assortment, price and promotions.

adidas achieves record results in the third quarter of 2026 and increases full-year profit outlook

adidas grew third-quarter direct-to-consumer sales 17% currency-neutral, with e-commerce up 18% and own retail up 16%, while wholesale rose 2%. A focus on full-price sales improved the DTC gross margin, and the group gross margin reached 54.3%. In Europe revenue fell 4%, but DTC there grew at a high-single-digit rate.

So whatEven a wholesale-heavy giant now gets its growth and margin from its own shops, which is the hub argument in one quarterly report.

Therabody launches "Jason", an AI shopping assistant on its own D2C site

Therabody launched Jason, an AI shopping assistant on Therabody.com built with the Agentic Shopping Assistant on AWS. It asks about needs (pain relief, recovery, anti-aging), budget and lifestyle, recommends a product, explains why with cited studies, and stays compliant for an FDA-regulated device maker. Therabody says it launched in under 90 days.

So whatThe owned shop becomes the place for expert, regulated advice that a marketplace listing cannot give, which is a reason for shoppers to buy direct.

Wayfair / PerigoldCustomer & Loyalty

Perigold launches a $175 paid membership with 10% back

Wayfair's luxury banner Perigold introduced Perigold Insider: 10% back in rewards on eligible purchases (online and in its stores), free shipping with no minimum, priority support and early access to sales, for $175 a year. It positions the program as a way to capture more of high-consideration, multi-room home projects, after Perigold grew more than 35% in Q2 2026.

So whatFor high-value, infrequent categories, a paid membership is a commitment device that pulls the next purchase back to the owned channel.

DSW rebuilds its VIP program around flexibility, not bigger discounts

Informed by a 10,000-member customer panel, DSW's "Rewards at the Ready" lets members redeem from 200 points (a $1 reward) with 12-month validity, replacing $5 rewards that expired after 75 days. Per-point value fell, but redemption is faster and the program aims to recognise engagement beyond purchases.

So whatLower friction and visible value can matter more for purchase frequency than headline discount depth.

CarParts.com adds a free points tier on top of its paid membership

CarParts.com launched CarParts+ Rewards, its first points-based program: a free tier where points never expire, plus CarParts+ Gold at $79 a year with triple points, free shipping on 1M+ eligible parts, 60-day returns and roadside assistance. Redemption is built into checkout. Since a soft launch in early September it has enrolled more than 118,000 new members.

So whatA free entry tier feeding a paid one is becoming the default loyalty architecture, and it builds the first-party base before the upsell.

Bubbleroom scales its own web shops to new European markets

Swedish fashion brand Bubbleroom plans direct sales via its own e-commerce sites in three more markets in Q4 2026, starting with Austria, then four to six more in H1 2027. It builds on 2025 launches in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, and says a scalable tech platform and more AI use let it open markets cost-effectively without growing the central organisation.

So whatA repeatable shop template plus local learnings is what makes international D2C rollout economical.

AI referrals become a measurable D2C traffic source

Citing Digital Commerce 360, AI referrals were typically below 2% of referral traffic for large online retailers earlier in 2026 but are now closer to 5% for some; Adobe data cited there found AI-referred shoppers generated 53% more revenue per visit. The piece recommends tracking AI platforms as a channel in their own right.

So whatThe web shop increasingly receives shoppers mid-journey: attribution and landing pages need to reflect that.
